A 1974 Rolls-Royce, once owned by Queen singer Freddie Mercury, sold at auction in London on Saturday for £ 286,250 (more than € 325,000). The money will go to a Ukrainian foundation engaged in the construction of a new hospital in the city of Lviv in western Ukraine.
It’s the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. The British pop idol bought the limo in 1979, but he let himself be carried around because he didn’t have a driver’s license. After Mercury’s death in 1991, Rolls took possession of her sister Kashmira, who sold the car in 2013. At the time, she made just over € 85,000.
Its last known owner was Ukrainian comedian, actor and singer Andriy Danilko, better known by his stage name Verka Serduchka. He actually wanted to donate the car to the Queen museum or be part of a major exhibition in Ukraine, but ultimately decided to make Rolls available for a good cause in his home country.
RM Sotheby’s, which has not charged any fees and commissions, has not disclosed who the buyer is. The auction house had previously estimated proceeds from £ 20,000 to £ 30,000.
