According to Freiburg epidemiologist and doctor HajoGrundmann, the corona pandemic is losing strength. “We no longer have to be as careful about the Corona as we were 33 months ago, when it was a viral infection to which the world population had no immunity,” said the expert of the newspaper “Badische Zeitung” (from Friday).

In its latest weekly report, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Berlin summarized that the seven-day incidence in all federal states and all age groups had decreased last week. The downward trend in the number of new corona infections reported in Germany could be related to the autumn holidays and be only temporary.
“We are out of the woods”
Asked if the autumn wave was over already, Grundmann told the paper: “You can assume that. (the autumn wave) peaked in the first and second weeks of October. “Since then, the number of cases has decreased.” We are out of the woods, “added the doctor.

In view of the pandemic, Grundmann spoke of saturation effects. “In the meantime, three quarters of people in Germany have been vaccinated and, if you look at the strength of the omicron waves, most also have immunity from an infection.” Grundmann heads the Institute for Infection Prevention and Hospital Hygiene at the University Hospital of Freiburg.
