Starlink introduces restrictions on traffic use during the day

The Starlink satellite service plans to introduce an internet access restriction from December for customers using more than 1 TB of traffic per month during peak hours as part of priority access. The change is taking place for US and Canadian customers under the new policy Fair Use Policy (fair use policy) of the SpaceX service.

For Starlink customers residing in the United States and Canada, monthly data consumption will be tracked from 7am to 11pm as part of the Priority Access option. If the traffic consumption limit of 1 TB is exceeded (approximately 10% of all Starlink clients), users will have “Basic access” to the Internet or low priority access during peak network consumption to the end of the month.

Those wishing to continue using Priority Internet Access are advised to purchase additional traffic at the rate of 25 cents for 1GB, and all traffic between 11pm and 7am will not be taken into account in the Priority Access balance. During this time, the user will be able to download new game updates or perform backups.

Customers of Starlink for RV (Starlink for RV) and who use the portability feature (Internet access for travelers) will not be able to use the priority access option. For those with a business account or using Starlink at sea, other restrictions apply.

Starlink is becoming more and more like a regular internet provider. For example, Comcast currently has a data consumption limit of 1.2 TB for customers in certain regions.
