GUADALAJARA, Jal., November 4, 2022.- The institutions of the health sector led by the Health Secretariat of Jalisco (SSJ), in collaboration with the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) and the Institute of Security and Social Services of State Workers (ISSSTE) have sufficient influenza vaccines to protect the resident population of the entity, especially risk groups.

On 3 October, when this vaccination campaign began, 832,955 doses of the organic were applied to 2 November, an amount that represents 37.2 percent of the target for the 2022-2023 winter season.

The SSJ Directorate-General for Public Health) reports that eight new cases of influenza and one death were reported in the entity during epidemiological week 43. Thus, the cumulative for Jalisco so far in the 2022-2023 winter season is 24 cases and one death.

The death from the flu was a 59-year-old man, residing in the municipality of Zapopan, who had no history of flu vaccinations. As a risk factor, the patient suffered from high blood pressure.

In Mexico, in the seasonal flu season 2022-2023, seven deaths were confirmed in the states of Colima, Hidalgo, Puebla, Sonora, Veracruz, Yucatán and Jalisco, respectively one for each entity.

The immune system is unable to recognize the flu virus from one year to the next, which is why people in vulnerable situations should be vaccinated every winter season: adults over 60 years of age, people with chronic degenerative diseases , girls and boys from six months to five years and health care personnel. Pregnant women should also be vaccinated, regardless of the months of gestation.

During the winter season, due to the lowering of the ambient temperature, dryness of the nose, throat and skin is generated; there is a lower consumption of water and a greater accumulation of particles suspended in the air, environmental pollutants; as well as the circulation of seasonal respiratory viruses, for which respiratory diseases tend to increase. This is the reason for asking to be vaccinated.

In the seasonal influenza season 2022-2023, influenza-like viral circulation is observed: AH3N2, AH1N1, type B and influenza without subtype typing.
