It has almost become a tradition: every Tuesday morning, the architect in charge of the restoration of the Salle Courade, in Saint-Christoly, gathers his troops. This week it was about choosing tiles with the tiler. Surrounded by Géraldine Virumblales, Daniel Debet and Bernard Grimée, her deputies, Mayor Murielle Picq takes stock of the construction site. “We have to choose the tiling for the extension of the building. But make two choices, because we are currently experiencing the current international context and the difficulties in supplying us », warns the tiler. After choosing a light shade, the elected officials carry out an initial evaluation of the work. Begun in May 2022 after a few months of delay, these works will significantly change the appearance of the town hall. “We are right in phase 1. It is a question of expanding the room with an external construction of 100 m2 and setting up a long corridor with a storage room and toilets for men and women in accordance with the law and only a room for the containers of household waste”, details Caroline Zaruba.
Several months of work
The municipality’s aim is to carry out the work in three phases corresponding to three budget years. Otherwise, the municipality could not absorb the sum of 600,000 euros of work, in an economic context in which prices are increasing every day. “We did well to sign the markets a while ago because prices are rising wildly,” adds Murielle Picq. “Inevitably, the use of the room is interrupted” indicates Géraldine Virumblales, “but we have worked with associations so that they can continue their activities. Some were housed in neighboring rooms, others adapted to this context ”.

If phase 1 were to end in spring, thus allowing the use of the environment for a few months, phase 2 will concern the false ceiling and acoustic insulation next year and the installation of new LED lights and heating with air conditioning. reversible. The ceiling will drop a few centimeters, but there will still be volume in this room, which is 3m77 high. For insulation, on one wall, it will be done inside, and on the other, outside. The goal of the elected officials is to keep the beautiful stone exposed as much as possible. With phase 3, in 2024, it will be the expansion of the building with an airlock and the redevelopment of the back room and the kitchen. The premises for the associations will be kept, but simply moved. “This sealed chamber has a thermal vocation. It will isolate the room, especially in summer or winter, and it will be possible to put coats on it, ”reveals Daniel Debet.
A pleasure garden
Outside, a pleasure garden will unfold against the street. It will be accessible through a secure gate. The parking lots will materialize on the square, which does not happen today, as well as against the street where buses regularly park. A layout for people with reduced mobility will be created.
