Work train derailed after a rockfall – Sørlandsbanen blocked
A rockfall crossed the train tracks at Heskestad in the municipality of Lund in Rogaland and a working train derailed. It will likely have major consequences for traffic.
– A work train has stalled. This happened just before 2 a.m. tonight, Bane Nor’s press secretary Britt-Johanne Wang told NTB.
According to Bane Nor, it will take some time to get the locomotive back on the tracks and clear the track. How long it will take has not been clarified, but the Sørlandsbanen between Egersund and Moi is closed until further notice. It is unclear what consequences the crash will have on Friday morning traffic
Sørvest Police District says the driver of the work train escaped with minor injuries.
– He has received on-site medical supervision and is doing well, operations manager Olaug Bjørnsen tells NTB.
He says they were informed of the incident by the conductor at 2:30 am.
– It’s not done in the blink of an eye to clean things up here. There is severe material damage and several wagons have been derailed. The area is still uncertain and a geologist may need to be contacted, according to the operations manager.
The landslide is described as about 1 meter high and 10 meters wide, and is a mixture of earth, stone and roots, police report. Twitter.
