United States (US) Secretary of State Antony Blinken called on all parties to exercise restraint after the former Prime Minister Imran Khan kill shot. Everyone was asked not to use violence and intimidation.
“Violence has no place in politics and we urge all parties to refrain from violence, harassment and intimidation,” Blinken said in a statement.
Blinken said the United States supports the Pakistani people. You said that the United States is also committed to democracy and peace.
“The United States is deeply committed to a peaceful and democratic Pakistan and we are on the side of the Pakistani people,” he said.
Earlier, former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was injured after being shot by a stranger. In the incident, one resident was declared killed and 6 others injured.
As reported by AFP, on Thursday (3/11/2022), the condition of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan is in stable condition after being shot in the leg during a political demonstration. Senior aide Raoof Hasan said the shooting was an assassination attempt.
“This was an attempt to kill him, to kill him,” senior assistant Raoof Hasan told AFP.
After the incident, Khan was immediately evacuated with a gunshot wound to his right calf. Meanwhile, several Pakistani officials from the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party were also shot at their modified container truck as it slowly passed through the crowds near Gujranwala. .
“Everyone in the front row was killed,” former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, who was standing behind Khan, told AFP.
He said supporters of the former Pakistani prime minister in the crowd were also trying to snatch the gun from the attacker. Due to that attempt, the shooter was unable to kill Khan.
“He missed the mark in the fight,” he said.
However, Fawad Chaudhry said the miss wounded 6 people. One resident also reportedly died as a result of the gunshots.
“Six people were killed and one supporter was killed,” he said.
