Deputy Director of the Latvian War Museum Juris Ciganovs
“We need to get to know our neighbor better and learn about the politics of this neighbor. We can predict what can be expected from this neighbor. Unfortunately, the demonstrations that have been observed since February 24, this is nothing new and that today’s Russian La Federation is basically both Russian empires, but also the ideological heir of the Soviet Union.
We are trying to discuss among the experts this vector of development of Russia’s foreign policy over the centuries, focusing more on the past and how this past has shrunk today, “Tsiganov explained.
The Ministry of Defense has informed that the international scientific conference “War, ideology and power: Russian expansion in Europe throughout history” will be attended by historical experts and specialists from Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Finland and Ukraine, to discuss the experience of European countries in the face of Russian expansion or occupation throughout history.
The conference can also be followed online on the “Facebook” page of the Latvian War Museum here.
CONTEXT:
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to start invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine. Putin said NATO would use Ukraine as a stepping stone for aggression against Russia, although there was no evidence for these claims. Ukraine believes that Putin’s real goal is to destroy Ukraine’s statehood and bring the territory under the control of Moscow.
