At a press conference on Tuesday, Houston police confirmed Takeoff’s killer is still a fugitive and asked the public to “step forward” with more information that would help him.
“We are currently looking for any information,” said Sergeant Michael Arrington, the lead investigator on the case. “We know that the media have received many phone calls, messages, tweets and videos. We need all of you to send them to us so we can solve this case. “
He added: “We want to find justice for this family. They are going through a lot right now … Help us capture, charge and arrest the person responsible for Takeoff’s death.” Police Chief Troy Finner added he believes the suspects were guests at the private party Takeoff attended Monday night at 810 Billiards & Bowling Houston.
“What if he’s your brother? What if he’s your son? Please answer”he says in a message to the public.
Chief Finner said he spoke to Takeoff’s relatives, who called him a “peaceful” person. Sergeant Arrington, however, confirmed that there were disagreements behind the deadly shooting. No reason was given for the dispute.
Previous reports indicated that the altercation had erupted over a game of dice.
Police confirmed Tuesday that at least two firearms were used and Takeoff had already been pronounced dead by the time officers arrived at the scene.
Chief Finner took a moment to praise the hip-hop community, saying it has a “bad reputation” due to the many rappers who have been killed in recent years.
“I know a lot of great people in our hip-hop community and I respect them”He said.
“I’m calling everyone, all hip-hop artists, in Houston and across the country. We have to stand up for ourselves. We all have to stand together and make sure no one ruins this industry.”
During the press conference, Sergeant Arrington also confirmed that there were two other people who self-transported to area hospitals with “non-fatal injuries”. They are a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman.
“Both will be fine”He added.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner also took a moment to speak and reassure the audience: “We’ll solve this case. We’ll find the shooter or shooters.”
