The Plovdiv Court of Appeal issued a verdict in which for the first time Penyo Mangerov – Czech Republic was convicted of kidnapping committed under the conditions of a dangerous relapse – 12 years’ imprisonment, and his sentence for rape imposed by the first degree was increased from 6 to 8 years. The accused will continue to serve a maximum total sentence of 12 years in prison.
The case in the Court of Appeal – Plovdiv was initiated following a protest by the District Prosecutor’s Office and complaints from the accused and the prosecutor.
With sentence of 27.06.2022. District Court – Plovdiv found Mangerov guilty of the rape of a young woman, which took place on 01.06.2019 in a house located in a district of Sofia, sentenced him to six years of imprisonment and acquitted him of the kidnapping charge. .
The decision of the Court of Appeal is not final. It is subject to protest and appeal to the Supreme Court.
