Former Speaker of the House and PvdA member Khadija Arib leaves the House of Representatives without saying goodbye. He does not write a farewell letter and does not come to the Chamber to say goodbye, he confirms after reporting from De Telegraaf. She sends an email.
Arib has been in the House of Representatives for 24 years. She was president from 2016 to 2021. At the end of September it was leaked that the executive committee of the House (the presidency) was investigating Arib for transgressive behavior during her presidency.
The presidency had received two anonymous letters. This showed that under Arib there may have been “a very dangerous work environment” for civil servants. He allegedly abused his position and belittled people.
‘Nothing to add
Arib reacted furiously. He announced his departure early October to. “I issued a statement on October 1 on the reasons for my departure and I have nothing to add,” he told the ANP news agency.
The parliamentarian then wrote that he disagreed with the decision to open an external investigation. Arib said in the letter that the board had caused severe damage to, among other things, the House, the democratic process and Arib himself.
PvdA party leader Kuiken wrote that he was “totally surprised” by Arib’s decision to step down. “He hurts me personally and the PvdA faction as a whole,” the Social Democrat politician said at the time.
