On October 28, 2022, the Leverkusen Art Night took place for the 18th time. The photo exhibition “Troopermania” by the photographic artist Mario van Veen could be seen in the rooms of the Rheindorf Stiftungsmanagement GmbH. The prelude was a Star Wars parade through the Leverkusen forest settlement, which was attended by various non-profit organizations: the cultural association Ireland Friends Leverkusen eV, the Wupper District Pipe Band eV and the German Garrison costume club. of the 501st Legion. The event attracted over 1,000 people.
Troopermania: Artistic photo of the Leverkuseners Mario van Veen
45 years after the start of the Star Wars films, photographer Mario van Veen from Leverkusen took us to the Stormtroopers room dressed in white. Similar to his “Little People” series, he worked with miniature figures, which he put into a new context. The integration of typical everyday objects and specially created mini props opens up new perspectives. “The” Troopermania “exhibition allowed me to show my art to young and old and to make them think. The greatest recognition for me is seeing the spectator’s smile and recognizing art as art”, sums up Mario van Veen.
“To this day, the fictional world of Star Wars is on everyone’s lips. I’m fascinated when something inspires people so much, regardless of generation, gender or origin. That’s why I asked Mario van Veen to develop a series. The pictures immediately came to mind of miniature stormtroopers, “says Michael Rheindorf, founder and managing partner of Rheindorf Stiftungsmanagement GmbH. The two people from Leverkusen have had a deep friendship for many years.
Star Wars Parade: Non-profit organizations celebrate the night of art in the forest settlement
The “Troopermania” photo exhibition started with a parade at 7pm. Accompanied by bagpipers and a clan of local friends from Ireland, around 20 Stormtroopers ran from the Schlebusch brewery along Saarstrasse to the premises of the Rheindorf Foundation Management. For the first time, honorary members of the Irish Cultural Association Friends Leverkusen eV, the Wupper District Pipe Band eV and the German Garrison of the 501st Legion performed together. The latter is part of the largest Star Wars costume club in the world, with over 1,000 members active in Germany alone. They make their own costumes true to the original to appear at conventions and charity events.
Michael Rheindorf was able to inspire the participants in the joint campaign. He is pleased that everyone has enriched the evening in his own way under the banner of art and culture: “We celebrated together the night of art in the forest settlement, which was enthusiastically welcomed by the public. a carefree evening together. The different non-profit organizations harmonized perfectly and created something unique. ”
Especially in the third sector, cooperation and cohesion are extremely important, emphasizes Michael Rheindorf. “A small contribution from each partner can achieve great things together. The management of the Rheindorf Foundation gives space, strength and time to charitable projects. In this way we promote civic engagement and therefore also the common good: when people work together for the good, this is the core of democracy and the foundations of peace and freedom “, explains the founder of the company, who since 2004 has been actively involved in management and consultancy for foundations.
Successful platform for a photo artist from Leverkusen and income for a good cause
As part of the “Troopermania” exhibition, artist Mario van Veen was able to make his limited edition photographs accessible to a wider audience. One of the images was provided with the signatures of all the people involved during the art night and then auctioned for the benefit of the HKM Foundation. This will support a project of the PalliLev hospice in Leverkusen. Anyone who has allowed themselves a beer at the Irishfreunde Leverkusen eV stand supported a good cause directly on the spot: during the pandemic, the association created its own clan beer with its Eirinn Caraidean clan under the direction of President Matthias Brandes. Much of the award goes directly into the work of the non-profit association, whose beer is brewed by the Bavarian Kauzen brewery. The association benefited from around 1,000 euros.
“Rheindorf Stiftungsmanagement is the organizer of the Leverkusen Art Night for the second time. This special night transforms the whole city into a stronghold of art and culture. The event is widely known and popular: it connects people and invites to speak, see and shared awe “, sums up Michael Rheindorf.
