Extensive daytime shot in the Bronx, NY – NBC New York

NEW YORK – The newly released video captured a violent street shooting in New York City, which shattered car windows and windshields as bullets flew in broad daylight.

No injuries were reported in the shooting, which occurred around 5 p.m. Friday in the Bronx, according to the NYPD, but the footage is likely to be of great concern to New Yorkers already overwhelmed by gun violence in the city.

Police surveillance footage shows two cars parked on the right hand side of Bronx River Avenue. The driver’s door opens from the one parked behind the other and a person in a black coat comes out.

The firefight erupts just as one of the occupants opens the other front door, breaking the left brake light as the driver lowers for cover.

The driver then hides behind the vehicle and opens fire, as the video shows. The passenger side window shattered from the shots, though it’s unclear who the shots came from. The rear windshield is also shot.

It is unclear what triggered the shooting, but the NYPD says a group of people shot the men in the blue Jeep as they got out of the vehicle. And the two men in the jeep returned fire, police said.

Anyone with information on this incident can call the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their suggestions by accessing the Crime Stoppers site one, or one Twitter @NYPDTips.

It is just one of many more recent examples of gun violence in New York City that has led elected officials to seek new approaches.

With a 31% increase in serious crime, Mayor Eric Adams agreed to hold a crime summit over the weekend at Gracie Mansion to help move towards long-term solutions. District attorneys from all five boroughs, defense attorneys, and senior New York police officers were among those invited to speak with the Democratic mayor for four hours on Saturday.

Some of those who left the session said it was full of lively discussions and debates, but gave no details.
