At least 100 people were killed in the explosion of two car bombs near the Ministry of Education in Mogadishu, Somalia on Saturday. Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud said Sunday, according to Reuters, who also warned that the death toll could rise. About 300 people were injured.
In the attacks, according to agencies, a couple of car bombs went off shortly after another at a busy intersection near the Ministry of Education. The second explosion shook the place at a time when rescuers had already arrived to help those affected by the first attack.
Similar attacks are common in the Horn of Africa country of 17 million people. Behind them are Islamic radicals from the Shabaab organization, which, according to the president, is also responsible for the attacks on Saturday.
The education ministry had already been attacked by Islamic radicals in 2015. Two years later, a bomb planted by them killed over 500 people in a nearby location.
