Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia– General Motors (GM) has suspended its Twitter advertising following Elon Musk’s acquisition of the social media platform. Reported by CNBC InternationalThe Detroit automaker, which also rivals Elon Musk’s electric vehicle product Tesla, said it was cutting off advertising to evaluate Twitter’s new policies.
“We are communicating with Twitter to understand the direction of the platform under their new ownership. As with any normal business with significant changes to the media platform, we have temporarily suspended our paid advertising. Our interactions with customer service on Twitter will continue.” GM said the management in a statement Saturday (10/29/2022).
Under the leadership of CEO Mary Barra, GM became one of the first automakers to announce billions of dollars in spending to compete with Tesla in the battery electric vehicle segment.
As for Tesla’s other rival, Ford admits he doesn’t currently advertise on Twitter. According to a Ford spokesperson, he had never advertised before Musk’s acquisition of Twitter.
“We will continue to evaluate the direction of the platform under the new ownership,” said a Ford spokesperson.
Other automakers, including Alphabet’s Stellantis and Waymo, did not immediately respond to requests for comment about whether they planned to suspend advertising or stop using Twitter after Musk’s acquisition.
Meanwhile, electric truck maker Nikola says they have no plans to change anything on the platform.
As is known, Elon Musk has now officially acquired Twitter in his business empire. The richest man in the world has closed a $ 44 billion deal to buy social media. Elon Musk will reportedly make fundamental changes to Twitter as well.
