Welcome to Las Californias
Outdoor rock festivals are nothing new in Tijuana, where the blink-182 group will kick off their reunion tour on March 11 at the Imperial GNP Festival.
But Welcome tu Las Californias, which will debut on 4 and 5 November, is probably the first to be held in Tijuana on the day of the inauguration and in Valle de Guadalupe the day after. It is also the first that I am aware of that offers the option to purchase tickets with NFT.
The entrepreneurial festival will feature one act from Rosarito Beach (Lucid Juice), two from San Diego (Kamnari and Sarayu), two from Mexico City (Sonido Gallo Negro and Diles Que Nome Maten), three from Tijuana (Joheel Rodmar, Saoko and DJ Yelram Selectah) and four from Los Angeles (Jazii, Domino, Alec King and Finkel).
The festival was born from an idea of the members of the Tulengua group, which will perform on both days and whose members live in San Diego, Tijuana and Rosarito.
The event, a work of love, is designed to promote the fusion of musical genres and geographical boundaries. Therefore, Saturday’s part will include a debate, Using art as a vehicle for interpersonal harmonywith Alan Lili, of Tulengua — host of the KPBS podcast Port of entry– and Art Pusher co-founder Seth Sullivan.
Hopefully, the festival will return next year, bigger and on both sides of the border, aiming to become the bi-national version of the 35-year-old South by Southwest festival in Austin.

Monsteraland Anniversary Extravaganza & Halloween Bash, with Apl.de.ap, Arnel Pineda and Headband Andy
Black Eyed Peas rapper Apl.de.ap Apl.de.ap and Journey singer Arnel Pineda are used to giving concerts in stadiums, amphitheaters and arenas.
That makes his performance this weekend inside the Port Pavillion on Broadway Pier seem like an intimate gig by comparison.
Both will perform in the framework of Rivendaland, an event celebrating Filipino American History Month presented by the Mostra Café in San Diego.
The evening will include Filipino food and a craft beer festival with the purchase of a ticket. Before the concert you can visit the free street fair Show Mania. This outdoor family event will be held on the dock and will feature music, dancing and other cultural events.
From 10:00 to 15:00 (Mania Show), free. 7 PM to 11 PM (Showland), Broadway Pier and Port Pavilion, 1000 North Harbor Drive, downtown. From 25 to 200 dollars. showacoffee.com/mostraland2022
The Santa Cecilia
Led by vocal dynamo Marisol Hernandez, this Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles band counts Los Lobos and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin among their fans and collaborators.
You’ll understand why when you hear the group’s flavorful blend of Mexican and Latin music styles with rock, pop, jazz, blues and reggae.
In Hernández they have an unusually skilled and versatile singer who shines in any stylistic environment. With La Santa Cecilia he manages to shine in all of them.
