Thousands of people gathered in central Prague to protest the center-right government, blaming it for rising prices and helping Ukraine.
The demonstration was called by the far-right movement Czech First to coincide with the national holiday of 28 October which marked the creation of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918.
Protesters in Prague’s iconic Wenceslas Square called for the government to resign and waved signs calling the ministers “amateur”.

“The government we have is the worst in the history of the Czech Republic and I’m not the only one to think so,” a protester told AFP.
He criticized Prime Minister Petr Fiala’s five-party government for high energy prices and accused it of paying more attention to Ukraine than to its own people.

The Czech Republic, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union for a six-month period, has provided Ukraine with significant military and humanitarian aid against the Russian invasion that began in February.
Protesters also complained of “increasing censorship” following the government’s decision to shut down several pro-Russian websites for spreading disinformation.
