Brussels: EU member states and the European Parliament have reached an agreement to ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2035. The goal is to reduce gas emissions that cause global warming.

Pascal Canfin, chairman of the European Parliament’s Environment Committee, said ahead of the UN climate change summit that the European Union is committed to clear legislation to combat climate change.

The goal is to eliminate carbon emissions completely by 2050. Meanwhile, the environmental organization Greenpeace has said that the 2035 deadline is not enough and should be banned by at least 2028.
