Covid-19: fewer than 85 new hospitalizations per day

Between 21 and 27 October there were on average 83 new hospital admissions per day due to Covid, down by 25% compared to the previous reference period. A total of 1,218 coronavirus positive people are still hospitalized, including 69 patients treated in intensive care.

In the period from 18 to 24 October, an average of 9 people died a day while carrying the virus (-8%), which brings the death toll to 32,902 since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.

In addition, almost 9,100 daily tests were carried out on average, for a positivity rate of 19.7%. The reproduction rate of the virus has meanwhile dropped to 0.8. When it is less than 1, this indicator means that the outbreak tends to slow down.

The incidence, which provides the number of new cases per 100,000 population, reached 250 in 14 days.

And then on October 22, 9,188,701 citizens were fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, while 7,214,839 people had also received a first booster dose and 3,363,738 of them had also been given a second booster dose.

Some 341,616 Belgians have even received a third coronavirus booster dose. These are mainly people aged 80 or over or immunocompromised people who had already received a second booster before the summer.
