New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said it would be better to introduce the same uniform for the police in all states of the country. By proposing the concept of ‘One Country, One Uniform’. This is just a suggestion. States do not ask for mandatory implementation ‘- said the Prime Minister, addressing the Chintan Shibir of the State Interior Ministers.
‘One country, a police uniform can be implemented. It may not happen today. It could take 5 years, 50 years or 100 years. But let’s think about it ‘- Modi said.
Modi said he thought it would be good if police identity across the country were the same. More cooperation between states is needed to tackle criminals and minor offenses. Cooperative federalism is not only the spirit of the Constitution, but it is also the responsibility of the States and the Center. All challenges related to law, order and security require coordinated action by all agencies in the country. The Prime Minister has asked state governments to review the old laws and modify them according to the current situation.
“Chintan Shibir” organized a meeting of all state interior ministers to discuss police reforms. The aim is to provide a national perspective for policy making on internal security issues. The event was attended by the heads of ministers of eight states and the ministers of the interior and deputy heads of ministers from 16 states. Chintan Shibir is chaired by Union Minister of the Interior Amit Shah.
