US authorities have ordered Tesla to take back the Cyberquad for Kids mini ATVs

American regulators have decided to recall Tesla Cyberquad for Kids mini-ATVs, made in the style of a futuristic Cybertruck electric pickup truck that has not yet been put on sale. The $ 1,900 models, which were released in a limited edition to promote the company’s other products, proved dangerous in some respects.

The dangerous vehicle was unveiled in 2021 during Tesla’s Cyber Week event, which went on sale and sold out within hours. It is known that 5,000 mini-quads commissioned by the automaker were produced by van manufacturer Radio Flyer – Tesla was the exclusive seller.

The recall was not initiated by Tesla or Radio Flyer – the decision was made by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). According to the agency, the Cyberquad does not meet mandatory federal safety standards for youth ATVs, “including having the wrong suspension” and not meeting maximum tire pressure requirements. Worse still for Tesla and Radio Flyer, both companies do not have a mandatory CPSC-approved ATV plan for driver training, safety messages, age guidelines, and more, which is mandatory for all ATV manufacturers and distributors in all over the country.

Fortunately for Radio Flyer, only one injury related to the operation of a children’s Cyberquad has been reported so far: an eight-year-old boy drove it with a 36-year-old adult, as a result of which the vehicle rolled over and one of the participants in the travel suffered a shoulder injury.

Cyberquad for Kids has a range of around 25km, a top speed of over 15km / h and was intended to promote “adult” ATVs. Cyberquad, which Tesla introduced at the same time as the Cybertruck pickups in 2019: they are considered an optional addition to the electric vehicle and will be charged by its batteries. The Cybertruck itself was just seen from a very unfortunate presentation, during which the windows of the pickup truck were shattered as they proved their impact resistance. Since then, the start of production of the car has been postponed several times, first until 2021, then until 2022, and at the beginning of this year there was information that the novelty would be put on sale no earlier. mid-2023. Obviously, the Cyberquad, which is actually an addition to the Cybertruck, is unlikely to appear before the main model.

In addition to the problems with the children’s ATV, Tesla is haunted by other failures. On October 27, he was forced to announce the recall of 24,000 Tesla Model 3s due to seat belt problems caused by improper maintenance of electric vehicles.
