The users of the Dreux hospital are artists: “Creation helps to feel better”

A suspended moment. Music rises in the fresco room of the Dreux Museum of Art and History. Pastels begin to dance on the white sheets. The first lines are drawn, they turn into shapes of all colors. The arts of works were born. They can be admired at the Premier Pas exhibition which opens its doors on 29 October at the Chapel of the Hôtel-Dieu which opens on 29 October.

The workshop led by Delphine Eristof, mediator of the museum, for the users of the general psychiatry ward and the planned short stay ward of the Dreux hospital ended. (empty)

He had started in front of the paintings in the museum. Ghislaine and François, hospital users, but also Barbara Ferjani, head of the department, Margaux Lerivray, occupational therapist and Jade, intern, tell how they feel in front of the painting. Delphine Eristof sets to music. She will give other colors to the work.

“I have been conducting this seminar for twelve years. It’s twelve years of happiness, “says Delphine Eristof.” I still love seeing people in front of a painting and starting to create. “

A time of escape

Barbara Ferjani smiles. She was an occupational therapist in the psychiatry department of the hospital when she invented, with others, this collaboration, with the museum:

“We thought that art could help the people hospitalized in our services, that another form of treatment was possible, that admiring the works and making them could calm. We were right. These moments when carers and caregivers are on an equal footing are still just as strong. These labs, on prescription for patients, are a real escape for everyone. “

Ghislaine does not say otherwise. He never misses one of the workshops. “Sometimes I go to dance or relaxation workshops. It feels good, but this well-being is rather ephemeral. Sessions at the museum don’t really subside for long. I like imagining stories when I look at paintings, feeling emotions with music, letting myself go completely when I draw. I am completely relaxed. “

Barbara Ferjani recalls that the first two exhibitions of patient work took place in a small corner of the museum. “We were proud. We now have the chapel of the Hôtel-Dieu just to ourselves. It is a very nice recognition ”.

Exposure First stepat the chapel of the Hôtel-Dieu, from 29 October to 20 November, from Wednesday to Sunday from 2pm to 6pm. Free admission.
