The officially reported corona infection rate has decreased in Saxony. In one week, the seven-day incidence dropped from 530.8 to 385.8 new infections per 100,000 population, according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) overview on Thursday. Nationally, the incidence dropped from 661.3 to 493.4.
Experts have long speculated that the value does not fully reflect the situation of the infection because not all infected people have performed a PCR test, but only those with a PCR test count in the statistics.
In a regional comparison, the infection rate in Bavaria was most recently highest in the Leipzig district (500.7) and lowest in the Görlitz district (265.4). According to the RKI, nearly 1.86 million infections have been reported in Saxony since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, with just over four million inhabitants. 16,183 people died from or from SARS-CoV-2 infection.
