Chinese President Xi Jinping, calls on the United States (USA) to enter into a close relationship. This is to create better conditions in the midst of a world that is not doing well.
The call was made by Xi, who has just started his third term as China’s leader. Xi secured a third term over the next five years as China’s leader at the end of Sunday’s Communist Party Congress.
As is well known, Beijing and Washington DC have always been at loggerheads in recent years. They have always disagreed on a number of issues, from China’s aggressive stance towards Taiwan to China’s crackdown on Hong Kong and alleged human rights violations in Xinjiang.
Differences of opinion also occurred in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The United States and its allies opposed the invasion. However, the US also accused China of providing diplomatic cover for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Xi’s first statement since the Communist Party Congress was held said the world was not doing well. Xi said that China and the United States as world powers must act for peace.
“At the moment the world is neither peaceful nor calm,” Xi wrote in a congratulatory letter to the National Commission on US-China Relations, according to state television CCTV.
“As great powers, strengthening communication and cooperation between China and the United States will help strengthen global stability and certainty and promote world peace and development,” Xi said.
In his letter, Xi added that China was “willing to work with the United States for mutual respect, peaceful coexistence … (and) to seek ways to familiarize themselves in the new era.”
“It will not only be good for both countries, but it will also be beneficial for the world,” Xi said in his letter.
