The new cases are getting worse, China is again tightening Covid-19 restrictions in several cities

BEIJING, KOMPAS.com Cities in China from Wuhan in central China to Xining in the northwest are tightening Covid-19 restrictions.

Local authorities have sealed off buildings, locked down districts and put millions of people in dire straits in an effort to stop the spread of the epidemic.

Reported by GuardianChina on Thursday (10/27/2022) reported the third consecutive day of more than 1,000 new cases of Covid nationwide.

Wuhan, the site of the world’s first Covid-19 outbreak at the end of 2019, reported 20 to 25 new infections every day this week.

The city has recorded 240 cases in the past 14 days.

The local government has ordered more than 800,000 people in one district to stay at home until 30 October.

Wuhan has also suspended pork sales in parts of the city, according to pictures and social media posts, after authorities said a Covid case had been linked to a local pork supply chain.

Guangzhou, China’s fourth-largest city by economic output and capital of Guangdong Province, closed more streets and neighborhoods on Thursday and detained people in their homes.

The new area is considered high-risk in a Covid renaissance that lasted until its fourth week.

In Xining, the capital of Qinghai province, posts on social media talk about food shortages and inflation of the prices of essential goods.

Health authorities in the city of 2.5 million are also competing to contain the Covid rebound after the week-long national holiday in early October.

“To reduce the risk of transmission, some fruit and vegetable shops have been closed and quarantined,” said a government official in Xining.
