An infectious disease consultant at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdullah Asiri, reviewed some recent information related to influenza infection.
He explained that the researchers found strong evidence that co-infection with influenza virus and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) can generate infectious hybrid viral particles that contain structural and functional components of both.
He stressed that this means they don’t compete, but rather support each other in causing disease and evading immunity.
