Nichael is passionate about connecting with the Chakma community of the Chittagong Hill Tracts in southeast Bangladesh. They are the largest ethnic group in the country. “In my village, everyone practices Buddhism, including my parents and other family members,” says the 22-year-old.
Nichael has religiously observed all the principles of Buddhism since her childhood. “Before I met Jesus Christ, I practiced all the rituals that Buddha wanted us to observe. My parents were very strict about religion. Every week I went to worship, where people sacrificed animals for their sins.” The Chakmas are an eclectic mix of Buddhism and Hinduism.
Nichael’s life changed when his best friend introduced him to Bible study of the Filippo Project of the Biblical League. “I learned that I needed forgiveness for my sins and that Jesus is the only way to heaven,” he says. These were the distinctive truths he studied from the Gospel of John. She gave her life to Jesus and decided to share these truths with the city community.
Many difficulties followed. Her parents objected, but not for long. He feared citizens, who might not be as accommodating as his parents. God worked behind the scenes with his parents and villagers. A prayer meeting at his home has sweetened her parents.
“Now, my parents don’t stop me from going to church. The people of my town don’t know I’m believers, but I’m willing to suffer for my faith. I believe God has chosen me to serve the people in my region.” he says bravely
Today Nichael believes that God saved him for a reason: to reach his community with the Gospel of Jesus. He says, “I want to preach the Good News to the unreached people of my city. My dream is to be an influential evangelist. I am happy to to know the way of truth; as Jesus said: ‘I am the way, the truth and the life.’ “
Thank everyone for teaching God’s Word and for their support in prayer. Hopeful for the future, Nichael hopes to carry out the work of an evangelist within the Chakma ethnic group. He prays that the people know the true God and Jesus Christ, whom He sent.
