Trust between employees and employers has deteriorated since the COVID-19 pandemic, significantly impacting their mental health, according to a LifeWorks report released Tuesday.
The Wellness Solutions Provider’s Mental Health Index reveals a decline in the mental health score in Quebec in September to 66.7 versus 68.4 in August, while across the country the score remained unchanged at 65. , 1.
Nearly a third of respondents (32%) are at high risk of mental health problems, while 28% of Canadians are affected by isolation, as they feel more than they would like.
Among those reporting an erosion of trust between employees and the employer, 46% cite a change in work culture as their main reason, followed by changes in the management of wellness supports (43%) and in communication ( 30%).
On the other hand, a quarter of respondents indicate that the relationship with colleagues is the factor that has the greatest positive impact on their commitment to their work, while 15% of respondents mention their mental health.
“These data show that it is critically important for organizations to deliberately make employee well-being a priority and to care for the relationship between employee culture and trust,” said Michael Dingle, Chief Operating Officer of TELUS Health.
“Mental health and personal well-being, on the one hand, and relationships at work, on the other, are the two main factors influencing the effort put into place,” commented Paula Allen, Director and Senior Vice President, Research and Global Wellness, from LifeWorks.
