Change is coming to Graz!
Starting with the modernization of the Messendorf training center and the construction of new training facilities, Sturm wants to lay the foundations for a glorious future. Millions in revenue from player sales and participation in the Europa League – for the second consecutive year – make an investment in the club’s infrastructure possible.
The first construction works in Messendorf have been completed. A further step in the refurbishment of the training ground is planned for spring.
“In February we will start heating the turf. A Swiss company has developed a new type of pumping system that uses ground water. The water cools in the summer and heats it in the winter. It costs a lot more, but it saves a lot of energy. All in all, the renovations will cost more than one million euros “, explains director Andreas Schicker at”Newspaper of the Crown“.
They want to reach the best clubs in terms of training requirements. Schicker confirms: “We want to have the best conditions for our squad.”
New facility for women and young people in planning
But it won’t stop with this construction project. The widespread lack of space in Messendorf should soon be a thing of the past. Another center for women and young people will be the next big project in Graz.
“For our part, we have done all our homework and we already have the option of a property in Graz. It should be similar in size to Messendorf,” says the sporting director of the “Blackies”, who has yet to be patient in this regard: “We are now awaiting the approval of the financing by the country, then we can start. We hope it will be completed by the end of next year”.
Return to the pits from the table
There was also a reactivation of the Gruabn in the room. The plan was to use Jakomini’s listed stadium as the second team’s new home and upgrade it for the second division. “This wouldn’t just appeal to the nostalgic,” says Schicker. However, the lack of space hinders this project. The sports facility is currently used by Grazer SC.
Sturm-Fohlen are currently playing their home games in Gleisdorf. “We are happy to be able to play there. But the games at Gruabn would have been different for our fans.”
