(Buan = Yonhap News) Reporter Jeong Gyeong-jae = Avian influenza virus (AI) from wild bird feces recently collected from Gyehwa-myeon, Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do was confirmed as highly pathogenic type H5N1 on 24 .

This is the first time highly pathogenic AI has been confirmed in the province this fall.

The provincial government has set up a quarantine zone within a 10km radius of the virus detection area and imposed restrictions on the movement of people and vehicles for the next three weeks.

In addition, it was decided to strengthen surveillance and quarantine by designating the 3 km area around 10 migratory bird habitats in the province as “AI special management area”.

A provincial official said: “In order to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic AI, we ask that farms actively collaborate with the lockdown and quarantine.”
