Cleaning the streets of Malaga It has been a recurring topic of conversation, criticism and political debate for years. This week the Observatory on Urban Services (OSUR) published its fourth barometer of satisfaction for urban services which confirms that this municipal service, street cleaning, still has much to improve from the point of view of the perception it has. the citizens. And it is that it is the only service among all the evaluators that has more negative (34% dissatisfaction) than positive (32% satisfaction) opinions. Compared to the previous barometer, that of 2019, Malaga recovers the number of satisfied people from 2018, going from 30 to 32%, while the national average is 52%. As for the dissatisfied, it also decreased from 44% to 34%. Although no aspect of street cleaning analyzed approves, cleaning the sidewalks and neighboring streets is the most appreciated point, with 35% satisfaction. On the contrary, and according to the national trend, cleaning of pet droppings is the least appreciated aspect, with only 14% favorable and 40% unfavorable.
For Lorenzo Dávila, director general of OSUR, “Malagasy people approve of their public services, even if they are heavily penalized by the cleaning service of the streets where remunicipalisation does not seem to have given great results. However, they are still below some previous editions, while maintaining the typology in water supply and public transport services “.
Malaga approves its municipal public services with 54% satisfaction, the same score obtained in 2019, and below the national average (63% acceptance). This is confirmed by the data of the IV Barometer of the satisfaction of urban services, carried out by Eng Urban Services Observatory (OR UP). The service that scores the best is the water supply, which is 2 percentage points below the national average.
The care of the green and conservation of public spaces and sports facilities It is the service that improves his perception the most, compared to 2019, and goes from failure to just passing. With these results, and as the scores of the cities analyzed have fallen across the board, Malaga is in 18th place, tied with Valladolid.
Analyzing each service in detail, the the water supply is what satisfies the people of Malaga the most, with 72% of support. It equals its result compared to the previous analysis and the national average is 2 percentage points away, or 74%. The aspects most appreciated by the interviewees and, in fact, the only ones that manage to get approval are: operational management (pressure, service continuity, meter operation), with 57% approval, and customer service of the company providing the service, with 59% favorable opinions.
The second service in order of evaluation is the public transport, with 65% satisfaction, which increases the result of 2019 by 2 percentage points, and is 5% higher than the national average. The state of cleanliness and conservation of public transport is the most appreciated aspect, with 60% of satisfaction. This is followed by the access of the neighborhoods to the public transport service, with 56% of favorable opinions.
57% of respondents feel satisfied with the service of waste and waste collection, a figure that equals the result of 2019 and is 3% lower than the Spanish average. The container service for separate collection is the most appreciated aspect, with 61% of acceptance, followed by the frequency of the service, with 54% of satisfaction.
Service care of the green and conservation of public spaces obtains 50% satisfaction, and manages to approve this 2022, exceeding the result of 2019 by 6 percentage points. As for the number of dissatisfied, it has also decreased this year, going from 22% to 14%. Two of the aspects analyzed within this service are approved: the quality of the facilities, with 53% of support, and the sports facilities, which reach 50% satisfaction. And negative is the equipment of the parks for different ages, which only gets 31% acceptance.

The results of this fourth edition of the barometer are the result of a survey conducted by the ODC on a total of 5,210 people, which reflects the opinion of the respondents on municipal public services in the 30 most populated cities of the country: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza, Malaga, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Bilbao, Alicante, Córdoba, Valladolid, Vigo, Gijón, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Vitoria, A Coruña, Granada, Elche, Oviedo, Terrassa, Badalona, Cartagena, Jerez de la Frontera, Sabadell, Móstoles, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Pamplona and Alcalá de Henares.
