Like a sword of Damocles
However, the club president has concerns on his face. Because he is worried about the future of the bowling alley in the former hotel “Wunsiedler Hof”, where the bowling players play. As is known, the district office bought the entire complex from the city of Wunsiedel. The contract, concluded with WUN Immobilien and taken over by the district office, will run until the end of 2024. It would be in the middle of a playing season. “The fact of the matter is that so far no one has been able to make any promises about what will happen next to the train,” says Panzer. It is not yet known what the district office intends to do with the bowling alley. The uncertain future therefore hangs “like the sword of Damocles” over the heads of those responsible. This also applies to SKC Nagel and SKC Holenbrunn, whose locations are also the slopes in the Fichtelgebirgshalle and which would also rent the slopes by the hour.
In retrospect, it was easy with the city as a contractual partner. The bowlers personally carried out minor repairs and, in the event of serious damage, the director of the KU Angela Schwarz was contacted. If something breaks on the train, those responsible do not know who will pay for the damage and in how long. To date, the association has not yet had a contact person in the district office. The bowling alley is the only one in the district with four lanes, which is also regularly inspected by the German Bowling Federation. And this is a prerequisite for the first team to be able to continue playing in the district championship. Otherwise the members would keep the aisles themselves and clean the rooms as well.
Continue to Wunsiedel
The offer is sufficient for petanque players and they enjoy practicing their sport. “It would be great if we could continue bowling in Wunsiedel,” said Panzer.
When asked by our newspaper, District Administrator Peter Berek also commented on this. “It is in everyone’s interest that the bowling alley continues to exist and that people will play it beyond 2024,” says Berek. This was also recorded in the contract with the city of Wunsiedel at the time of purchase. In addition, there are also numerous bowling fans in the district office who also use the lanes for convivial games.
