American actor Kevin Spacey will not have to pay damages in a civil lawsuit brought against him by Anthony Rapp. Rapp accused Spacey of sexually assaulting him at the age of 14, but the jury says Spacey did not assault him.
If found guilty, Spacey would have had to pay $ 40 million. According to Rapp, Spacey made sexual advances in 1986, when the two were still relatively unknown actors. Spacey was 26 at the time and Rapp was 14. According to Rapp, Spacey was lying on top of him in a bedroom at a party.
Rapp’s story first appeared in 2017 on BuzzFeed, just at the time when the #MeToo movement was taking off. Spacey then tweeted that he was shocked by the allegation. He said he didn’t remember the incident, but apologized for “inappropriate drunk behavior”.
Other allegations
In the same message he announced that he had been attracted to men all his life and that from that moment on he wanted to live openly as gay too. Soon after, other actors also came forward accusing Spacey of sexual misconduct.
Following the allegations, Netflix decided to fire the actor. The hit series House of Cards, in which he starred for five years, he was later killed without him. His career then fell into ruin. That began shortly after the allegations: then the role of him in All the money in the world shot again with actor Christopher Plummer, although the film was almost finished.
There are also other lawsuits pending against the plaintiff. He is on trial in Britain for assaulting three men. The incidents are said to have taken place in London between March 2005 and August 2008 and in the West of England in April 2013. Substantial proceedings in the case are expected to begin next year.
