On Thursday, US President Joe Biden thanked outgoing British Prime Minister Liz Truss, pledging to continue “close cooperation” with the British government in the future.
“I thank Prime Minister Liz Truss for her cooperation on a number of issues, including holding Russia accountable for her war on Ukraine,” Biden said in a statement following Truss’s announcement of his resignation.
“The United States and the United Kingdom are strong allies and enduring friends, and this is a fact that will not change,” Biden added.
“We will continue our close cooperation with the UK government as we work together to address the global challenges facing both countries,” Biden said.
And Trass said Thursday that she would resign from office, under the pressure of her economic program, which shook markets and split the Conservative Party, just six weeks after her appointment.
Trass announced that elections will be held to choose a successor “within the next week,” adding that he will remain in his position until a new prime minister is chosen.
