It is turning green in Dresden: the sowing season for city trees begins

With the trees of the Altmarkt, the current autumn planting season opened in Dresden’s streets, parks and green areas at the end of September.

By winter, 429 trees will be planted by landscaping companies and another 263 trees by the state capital’s administrative operations on street sidewalks and 63 trees in parks.

“We are planting 755 trees this season. In spring, 255 trees had already been planted, “says Detlef Thiel, Head of Urban Green and Waste Management.” With 1,010 new plantations in 2022, we have achieved the goal we set ourselves in the Dresden street tree concept, which is been updated in 2019, with 1,000 trees per year! This compensates for the trees that have died in recent years due to changed climatic conditions. However, this does not increase the stock of urban trees ”.

Trees are planted here

There are already 15 new trumpet trees (Catalpa bignonioides) on the Altmarkt and Seestrasse. The Karcherallee received 13 lime trees (Tilia americana ‘Nova’) in the first section between Bertolt-Brecht-Platz and Stübelallee. These tree plantations are co-financed, among other things, with donations from the Stadtgrün fund. The Office for Urban Green and Waste Management thanks the numerous donors and is pleased that the inhabitants of Dresden are supporting the green of their city in this way.
In spring 2023, another 62 small-leaved lime trees will complete the Karcherallee tree population in the stretch from Stübelallee to Rayskistrasse. Interested parties can also donate to this until the end of the year. All information on this below www.dresden.de/fonds-stadtgruen.

Among other things, there are 26 small-leaved lime trees (Tilia cordata ‘Greenspire’) on Forststraße, 26 red ash trees (Fraxinus pennsylvanica ‘Summit’) on Overbeckstraße, 27 tulips (Liriodendon tulipifera) on Promenadenring Ost, 64 purple alders (Alnus x spaethii) and Spitz -Ahorn (Acer platanoides ‘Allershausen’) on Berthold-Haupt-Strasse and 16 different trees at the Airportpark, Wilschdorfer Strasse in the ground.

Ironwood trees (Parrotia persica ‘Vanessa’) are mainly planted in parks and green spaces on Westendpromenade 98. The orchard on Kohlenstraße will receive 44 different fruit trees and 16 trees of different species will be added to the Altstrehlen green area.
