An investigation into a serious criminal incident under the direction of the Stara Zagora District Attorney’s Office is underway, District Attorney Dicho Atanasov announced.
Early this morning a 52-year-old man was shot with a hunting weapon while sleeping in his home in the village of Malka Vereya in Stara Zagora.
A shot was fired at the body of the victim, whose condition is serious and rescue operations are underway. He was admitted to the University Hospital of Stara Zagora, where doctors are fighting for his life.
The seriously injured man lived alone on the outskirts of the village. Most likely, the still unknown gunman entered his bedroom through an open door, but this remains to be established.
The victim was found by relatives, who still managed to call on the phone with his last strength.
Investigators are working on several versions, including whether a woman was involved in the case. It may even have been a personal vendetta.
So far the injured person is not known to law enforcement. He was a simple worker, he didn’t even own a weapon. His relatives have been questioned and the prosecutor’s office hopes the offender will be found by the end of the day.
After this case, Stara Zagora district attorney Dicho Atanasov commented that domestic crimes have recently increased in the country.
A little while ago, the prosecutor confirmed that the seriously injured man died on the operating table. In the village of Malka Vereya, they say about him that he worked in a private plumbing company. According to locals, the deceased’s former brother-in-law was arrested as a suspect in the case. The two had been on bad terms ever since they lived under the same roof. About the possible shooter in the village, it is said that some time ago he was a guardian of the Pazardzhik prison, but that he was released from work due to a mental illness. Most likely he shot an illegal lead gun.
