Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi police have made it mandatory for children under the age of 4 to have a child seat in the car. Children under the age of 10 must travel in the back seat only. The seat belt is mandatory for them. Police were distributing free child seats as part of the Bench’s of Good program to ensure safe travel for children by car.
A child seat is provided which can be attached to the rear seat of the car. This is in partnership with Emirates Red Crescent Authority and Emirates Motor Company.
Families traveling with children without a car seat are fined Dh400. Drivers who put children under 10 in the front seat will be fined Dh400. 5,000 dirhams must be paid to recover the impounded vehicle.
