The former performer of the popular Italian variety group “Ricchi e Poveri” (Ricchi e Poveri) died at the age of 80, France Presse and TASS reported, citing the ANSA agency, which in turn cited his family members.
The singer and songwriter has had health problems for many years. Gatti retired from the music scene in 2013 after the death of his son Alessio.
Q. Corriere della Sera recalls that Franco Gatti left Ricky and Poveri in 2016, despite the fact that the group is reuniting in the original line-up to perform as guest of honor at the Sanremo 2020 Italian Song Festival.
During its long career, which peaked in popularity in the 70s and 80s, the group, founded in 1967 in Genoa, played several times in Sanremo and won the competition in 1985. In 1978 the pop group represents Italy at Eurovision.
Since the 90s of the last century, “Ricky is Believe” has actively appeared on television and has numerous tours in different countries, including Bulgaria.
Although its composition has been reduced, formally the group has not ceased to exist and currently performs in duo of Angelo Sotju and Angela Brambati. The two interpreters expressed their deep sorrow for the loss of their friend Franco Gatti.
