Ewout enters Arnhem office along with six different couples, including Joyce and Kees. Kees has been working for the police for eleven years and the action and feel of his work gives him a thrill every day. Joyce has also been in the business for a while, fifteen years. In the meantime, the social aspect is more important to her and she initiates the conversation rather than maintaining it.
Conversations have been difficult over the past two years due to the coronavirus which sadly still gripping the world. The virus also plays a role during one of the reports of the episode on Tuesday evening. The episode shows how Joyce and Kees are told that they have been asked for help by a woman who has tested positive for coronavirus, she is worried about her mother and finds herself in front of a closed door. Although the agents in the car heading towards the house are still a bit giggle, the situation turns out to be serious.
Upon entering, it becomes clear that unfortunately the lady is no longer alive. “Unfortunately, we found the lady dead in bed. (…) she was lying very neatly in a kind of ‘sleep’,” Joyce tells Ewout calmly. Since she has been through these kinds of situations before, she now knows what to expect. “When you enter that room, you already think: someone could be lying here. He is an adult.”
Although the situation is bad enough, Joyce must also pass the sad news on to the daughter of the deceased, who is still waiting outside. “Your concerns were completely justified,” she tries to reassure her. Joyce discovers that the woman continues to thank her later “the most bizarre”. “You don’t have to thank me for that. I also think it’s terrible to say it,” she tells Ewout.
