Jokowi explains the reasons why PSSI did not welcome the FIFA president to the palace

KOMPAS.com – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodorevealed the reason for the absence of the PSSI representative during the meeting with the President FIFA, Gianni Infantino.

However, I meet Jokowi with Gianni Infantino, not a single representative of the Indonesian Football Association was present, including the general president of PSSI, Mochamad Iriawan.

Joko Widodo explained the reasons for the absence of PSSI representatives. He said that the meeting at the Merdeka Palace was dedicated only to the government and the president of FIFA.

“PSSI will be FIFA’s business. It was FIFA’s business with the government,” Jokowi briefly told media after the meeting, quoted by Between.

President Jokowi did not disclose further the reason for the absence of representatives of the PSSI, which in general is an organization under the auspices of FIFA.

Gianni Infantino’s arrival follows a response letter to President Jokowi, previously sent through SOE Minister Erick Thohir.

It is known that Erick and Gianni Infantino met in Doha, Qatar, on October 5, 2022. The meeting took place only four days after the Kanjuruhan tragedy.

The Kanjuruhan tragedy, which killed 133 people, has become a deep grief for Indonesian football.

Therefore, FIFA will provide assistance so that Indonesia can make a transformation in the world of football.

This assurance was passed on directly by Jokowi after holding a meeting with Gianni Infantino.

“We have decided to carry out a complete transformation of Indonesian football, ensuring that all aspects of the match are played according to the safety standards set by FIFA,” said Jokowi.

“Both the players and the spectators must ensure their safety,” said Joko Widodo.

“For this reason, we have decided to review the viability of the stadium and also to apply the technology to help mitigate the various potentials that endanger spectators and players,” said Jokowi.
