“They have been around for years in Germany and the Netherlands and are very popular there,” says Kenis. “You have to declare the solar panels there, but paperwork is minimal.” In total she paid 600 euros for her solar panel and installation. On an annual basis, she could save around 200 kilowatt hours (kWh). “It’s about what your refrigerator consumes in a year,” says Kenis. “With the current kilowatt hour price, which is between € 0.5 and € 0.9, I could save € 100 to € 180 on an annual basis. That’s a nice bonus.”
