Europe and nuclear power: new challenges, new perspectives

Historically at the origin of European unity, civil nuclear energy has become a source of disunity between member states and, in the wake of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, a new form of war threat.

On 25 November 2022 a round table in the morning will focus – in a historical perspective – on the origins of the legal and diplomatic framework of nuclear energy in Europe but also on its limits, in particular in the light of the Ukrainian conflict and the situation created at the site of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.

The afternoon round table will be dedicated to new themes and future challenges. Between dogmatic and scientific approach, nuclear energy differs from other energies in that it cannot be studied only in terms of sustainable technological choice, but also in terms of national sovereignty and energy independence.
