The English tabloid Daily mirror has pictures of the 21-year-old arriving at Manchester Magistrates Court on Monday morning in a British police prisoner transport – a so-called DAF.
Greenwood has not played football since he was arrested in January for the conditions for which he is now being charged. He was released on bail and extended twice in April and June.
But Greenwood was arrested again on Saturday for allegations of violating his bail conditions by contacting the alleged victim. He was in custody until the first hearing on Monday.
Prosecution Jane Potter confirmed on Saturday that Greenwood has been charged with three cases against the same woman.
“Attempted rape, control behavior and coercion and assault that caused real physical harm,” Potter said.
The 21-year-old has been suspended from the club but still receives a salary of around NOK 800,000 a week from the big club.
Manchester United received criticism ahead of the season for including Greenwood on the reserve squad.
The club was quick to explain that the player will automatically join the squad, as he is still an employee of the club, but that he is still suspended until there is a clarification on the matter.
