Italian cyclist Elia Viviani won the gold medal in the elimination race at the Track Cycling World Championships in Paris. In the elimination race, every two laps the rider who is last is eliminated, until there is only one left. Viviani, who is 33, beat New Zealander Corbin Strong, who finished second, and Briton Ethan Vernon, third. He thus confirmed the title of world champion in the discipline, because he had already won gold at the World Championships in Roubaix in 2021.
