high-level athletes awarded

The community of the Portes de France-Thionville agglomeration organizes every year – except in 2021 – the Agglo Club which highlights local sports clubs that play at a high level. Among these, the Terville Florange Olympique Club volley-ball (TFOC), one of the three best clubs in the Moselle that will play, for the first time in its history, the European Cup in 2022-2023. His women’s team, fourth in the League A championship at the end of last season, is one of the jewels of the Thionville territory. The players, mostly new signings, have been put in the spotlight for their outstanding achievements for a club on a relatively tight budget compared to its competitors. It also benefits from financial support from the Thionvilloise agglomeration for an amount of 32,500 euros, equal to that allocated by the Val de Fensch. The Sporting-club thionvillois waterpolo that maintains this season in the National 1 will pocket 55,000 euros in aid. As for Yutz women’s handball, whose first team arrived just off the podium of National 1, they will be awarded a contribution of 15,000 euros.

A stage of the Tour de France in 2025?

Among the sports competitions organized in the area, the 36th Tour de Moselle between Basse-Ham and Kuntzig, is financed by the aglo for an amount of 10,000 euros. The sum of € 2,000 was also awarded to the Triathlon International Thionville Portes de France and € 1,500 to the Hemeratrail de Terville.

“The clubs make the territory shine,” said Pierre Cuny, president of the agglo community and mayor of Thionville, who granted himself some confidences and in particular reiterating the will of the capital of the northern Moselle to “win a stage of the Tour of France”. Referring then to the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, he recalled the commitment of the conurbation of Thionville to the Terre de jeu 2024 label and focuses in particular on climbing, which is well represented by the Escalade Evasion club.
