After the President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, announced the start of the return of the Syrian displaced from next week, international conservative positions were observed, warning against proceeding with this dossier in light of the current situation in Syria . Amnesty International has asked Lebanon to stop implementing the plan for the repatriation of Syrian refugees to their country.
The displaced person’s file participated in the French Foreign Minister’s visit to Lebanon last Friday, where he confirmed that there is an understanding of Lebanon’s position, noting that there are worrying data regarding the safety of displaced persons in Syria, and that, unless the politician there the situation improves, it is very difficult for a massive return of the displaced.
In parallel, the displaced minister, Issam Sharaf El-Din, called on international organizations to stop the cash aid being paid to displaced people in Beirut and to pay them in Syria.
The Director General of Public Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, confirmed next week the resumption of refugee repatriation according to the previously used mechanism, noting that the next batch will include 1,600 people, explaining that the Lebanese side is still awaiting the response of the Syrian authorities to decide the dates.
