According to the Moroccan Observatory of small and medium-sized enterprises, the Casablanca-Settat region recorded the largest share of new business creation (PM) of legal entities, or 34.4% in 2021, marking a slight decrease of 0.6 points compared to the previous year (OMTPME).
This region is followed by those of Rabat-Salé-Kenitra and Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima which recorded shares of 14.6% and 11.2% respectively, according to the OMTPME 2020 annual report. 2021. For its part, the distribution of business creations by sector of activity shows that the “Commerce, repair of cars and motorcycles” section represents a share of 29.6%, down by 0.2 points compared to 2019, continues the Observatory, which which are followed by the sections “Construction” and “Transport and storage”, with quotas established respectively at 19% and 11.2%.
For “Administrative and support services activities” and for “Specialist, scientific and technical activities”, the percentages of creations amount respectively to 7.3% and 7%.

As for the distribution of PM business creations according to their legal form, the SARLs represented 43.8% of total creations in 2021, marking an increase of 3.4 points over a continuous year. The share of the limited liability company with a single shareholder, on the other hand, decreased by 3.2 points, equal to 55.7%.
Regarding business dissolution, the report notes that after the decline in business dissolution in 2020 compared to 2019, linked to the closure of the courts due to the pandemic crisis, 2021 saw an increase in the number of companies in dissolution of 52.2% up to 8,284.
In this 2020-2021 edition of its annual report, the Moroccan VSME Observatory provides a series of indicators and analyzes on the demographic, economic and financial trends of businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic. This third edition also dedicates a chapter to the evolution of employment in this unprecedented context. It is also enriched with indicators on self-employed women and the results of a study on female entrepreneurs.
