On Thursday, a marriage proposal soured during the New York Islanders’ home debut against the Florida Panthers.
In front of the approximately 17,000 spectators present at the UBS arena, a shirtless man saw fit to propose marriage to his girlfriend, reports the New York post.
All an embarrassment ensued when the woman rejected the request.
Several viewers and supporters on social media thought the footage was “organized with the type of views”.
A fan present at the match, however, wanted to tell his version of events: “I was there and it certainly wasn’t organized,” he said on Twitter.
Welcomed by the New York newspaper, David Marcus recounts the first moments that led to the rejected request.
“The boy took off his sweater. He said [à sa copine]: “Please say yes, say yes, say yes”. She was in shock. All the nearby supporters were filming the scene. When people saw her go up the stairs, everyone screamed, “she explained.
The young supporter listened to the words of the rather disappointed man after his failed marriage proposal.
“Oh! I’m sitting here in front of 20,000 shirtless people. It’s embarrassing,” he said.
David Marcus, who was accompanied by his father, points out that the fan rejected by the woman left the stands a few moments later.
“He held the ring in his hands. She was crying and ashamed. Later he left the stands with the woman’s wallet ”, she testifies.
