NEW YORK – The New York City Department of Sanitation announced Friday that registration is now open for those interested in working as emergency snow workers for the upcoming winter season.
Emergency snow workers are day workers who remove snow and ice from bus stops, walkways, fire hydrants and roads after heavy snow. Snow workers earn $ 17 an hour to start and $ 25.50 an hour after working 40 hours in a week.
According to the department, snow workers must be at least 18 years old, fit to work in the United States and capable of doing heavy physical work. Additionally, candidates must be vaccinated against COVID-19.
All applicants must bring the following items upon registration:
- Two small photos (1 ½ square)
- Original and copy of two identification documents
- social security card
- COVID-19 vaccination test

The registration appointments are held at the 59 workshops of the Department. Candidates should not show up for their appointment if they have symptoms of COVID-19.
