Horror went on sale on October 14th Contempt for Xbox Series X | S and PC. At the same time, the review embargo was lifted and the game’s ratings appeared.
The average novelty rating was 71 points on OpenCritic (43 reviews) e 72 points on Metacritic (52 reviews).
The game is praised for the atmosphere, but the gameplay implementation, especially the battles and checkpoint system, is criticized.
Eurogamer: “Scorn has a wonderfully spooky atmosphere and clever puzzles, but questionable checkpoint implementation and oblique combat ruin it all.”
IGN: “Scorn is an inexorably creepy dive into a surreal and eerie world of alien mysteries, but that’s not what’s scary, it’s his gruesome fight.”
The Guardian: “A captivating piece, but the things it is associated with are so hateful that players may be forced to limit the length of their sessions.”
Gameblog: “When it comes to horror games that emulate Giger’s work, Scorn is definitely one of the most interesting examples. Many of the puzzles are good, but the lousy combat ruins the whole style and the inexorable darkness causes depression.”
